2010 Conference Highlights

The 2010 Elder Law Conference began with registration and a breakfast snack and the distribution of conference materials early on Friday morning, August 6, 2010.
Ben Thomas Cole, II, Executive Director of NMRLS opened the program with THE WELCOME.

 

SOURCES OF LEGAL ASSISTANCE FOR THE ELDERLY, A Panel Discussion which featured:
La'Verne Edney, Esq., General Counsel of The Mississippi Volunteer Lawyer's Project, and  
Amanda Glover Evans, Esq., Director of the NMRLS Mississippi Taxpayer Assistance Project, A Low Income Taxpayer Assistance Project (LITC), and 
Catherine V. Kilgore, NMRLS Elder Law Project Director and  program coordinator.
CONSUMER PROTECTION ISSUES AFFECTING THE ELDERLY, A Panel Discussion which featured:
 Ruby White, Esq., NMRLS Litigation Director, and
Alsee McDaniel, Esq., Managing Attorney, NMRLS Greenville Office.
YES YOU CAN! - POSITIVE SOLUTIONS FOR OLDER ADULTS AND PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES, was presented by:
Richard A. Courtney,
CELA, Frascogna Courtney, PLLC
The conference broke for lunch at noon and prepared for the Luncheon Speaker.
Catherine V. Kilgore presented the Luncheon Speaker

Lafayette County attorney  David O. Bell, who is also a local award-winning author and Lafayette County Justice Court Judge, read his short story, Buried Bones, an allegory on end of life decisions, at the luncheon.  

HOW HEALTH CARE REFORM IS AFFECTING MEDICARE was presented by
Richard A. Courtney, CELA, Frascogna Courtney, PLLC
HOW HEALTH CARE REFORM IS AFFECTING MEDICAID  was presented by
William H. Mounger, SAAG,Mississippi Office of the Attorney General/Medicaid
The audience was enthralled by the presentations.
THE USE OF ALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION TO SOLVE ISSUES INVOLVING SENIOR CITIZENS was presented by
Barry K. Jones, Esq., LL.M. (Taxation), C.P.A., Accredited Estate Planner, Wise, Carter, Child & Caraway.
ETHICS IN ELDER LAW: PRACTICAL SOLUTIONS FOR ATTORNEYS AND SOCIAL WORKERS was presented by
T.H. Freeland IV, Esq., Freeland & Freeland
At the conclusion of the conference, the participants lined up the receive their appropriate CLE Credit Certificates.
